The register

Every matched occupation

How one occupation is matched across five classification systems

  1. Each country uses its own classification — SOC in America, SOC2020 in Britain, NOC in Canada, ANZSCO in Australia, ISCO-08 at the ILO.
  2. Matching them mechanically produces nonsense, so the spine is curated by hand: a country joins a comparison only when its classification contains a genuinely equivalent occupation.
  3. Where a country publishes several narrow specialisms instead of one broad occupation, the comparison page names the specific one used.
  4. Where no equivalent exists, the country is listed as not shown rather than filled in with something close.
